Erin Laubenheimer, multimedia, 4" x 6"

'My work evokes dusty memories; things stuffed away in the attic of the mind. Happenings that attempt to compartmentalize themselves, forgotten, locked up in trunks and shoved into the darkest recesses of consciousness, masks that have been worn and cast off, costumes left over from roles that have been played, crutches no longer in use, faded photographs, remnants of pasts decaying in the shadows as spiders weave a place to rest among them. Life moves forward as people adapt. People weave their own webs, sometimes out of lies, illusions, complications, misunderstandings or justifications; inventing new memories to entertain themselves or to respond to conflict. Waking every morning with the woven tapestries of our lives behind us, threads in our hands on the edge of an empty abyss that lies ahead of us, we weave our way into the future. Every stitch receding into the past. We create designs out of our patterns as we reach out into the Universe before us, the Great Unknown. Occasionally, we get caught up in the make-up of things and tangled in the threads. Some days we look down and panic as the space bellows at us and the Buddha laughs. The strong bend and flex as they give back a primal scream, the animal retort, the cry of a warrior in defiance. Like Pan, we march through life half animal and half angel battling within and so without. We create. We destroy. We channel love in between, if we are lucky, reaching for something greater as we evolve...' Erin Laubenheimer
Erin is a Brooklyn artist, alumni of Pratt Institute and is currently a graduate student in pursuit of her Master's in Art Therapy at NYU Steinhardt.
